Current Report
Such is life. The weather just lately has reminded me of my girlfriend’s moods. Ever changing. Just when the sea temperatures seem to fall, along comes another few cloudless skies to warm things up. The wind has blown from every direction and always seems to sense where I am throwing the fly around, and blows directly in my face with force. I tell you, it’s all a conspiracy! Despite a few teething problems with numerous projects and general chores, finally, I got into the water this week with some pleasing and promising results. Regardless of a technical hitch with my reel, I managed to overcome the frustration with help from Jack Daniel’s. As at this morning, the sea temperatures are around 16oC in most places around the Danish coast and catches are looking good for all regions around Fyn and the eastern side of Jutland. Incredible high tides have somehow lured some big fish close to shore especially in Haderslev Fjord and up to Kolding. We now finally plop out of the end of summer time and fall into a fantastic season for fishing for sea trout along the coast. Spectacular sunsets add pleasure to almost every evening at present as the sun scrapes lower to the horizon. Again, we see feeding close to shore around the golden hour and during many overcast skies now, we see active hunting throughout the day. Active marine life Sand Eel, shrimps, small fish all litter the shallows ringing the dinner bell for the active sea trout. Bliss! I have missed these conditions and look forward to a good Autumn, Winter and Spring sessions. Personal catches reach 9 sea trout in the past 2 weeks ranging from 49cm to 62cm. I had numerous encounters with sea trout visually and that reminds me, we are now in a season where the sea trout love to follow the fly/lure, at times, right up to the rod tip. This can drive you insane! I also have had contact with Grayling finally! This week, 1 Grayling topped my record. I’m a happy man. Several fish are reaching good sizes along the western shores of Fyn, most of the concentration seems to fall around the Wedellsborg Hoved region. There are areas which are hot, and areas which are not. Finding the places is the task. Here one day, gone the next – is a common phrase here in Denmark. The northern shores of Fyn have been good especially around the Gabet point. Odense Fjord bringing in some fat fish and down south around Falster has seen sea trout topping the 5kg bracket. The area around Assens and south has been very good with catches from 1kg up to 2.5kg, one rumour has even been aired as 4.2kg. Speaking of rumours. The word at present is at some point last week, a monster sea trout was landed at Gravenshoved on the southeastern shores of Jutland estimated at 10.1kg. Although I can’t confirm this, and neither can many locals, it’s not impossible. I know many big fish are taken around that area all averaging 3kg at this time of year, hearing of this rouge has become the topic of the week for many anglers. Everyone knows someone who knows someone who knows of someone that heard of the story. Dam anglers! The rivers have been good all due to well deserved rainfall over the past two weeks. The water temperatures have cooled and feeding has become active. Grayling have re-appeared in the Kongeåen and some nice brown trout have been landed on a mixture of flies. The Gelså has been super. Grayling galore! What more could you ask for? Skjernå has seen good results on the Salmon front with some fish around the 4kg being taken. Gudenå and Vardeå have also seen big fish with one sea trout topping 8.4kg, so I heard! Reminding all that all rivers here in Denmark close to all around October/November. For most, this marks the start of doing some serious fly tying, for other – like me, time to put the thermals on and hunt for those sea trout at the coast. Presterno Fishing has upgraded the website listing our services and dates for the new year. Keep your eyes peeled. Something big is going to happen very soon! So, tight lines all and look forward to a great Autumn and Winter Ripley Davenport Fly Fishing Guide Presterno Fishing
