Current Report
Everybody is always
interested in statisics when
it comes to fishing. When,
where, how, who and so on.
Well, I have gathered some
statistics recently
published in the Danish
Sportsfiskeren Magazine. All
facts and figures are taken
from the Danish website:
fangster.dk and are relevant
to Denmark with a primary
focus on fishing for sea run
brown trout in saltwater.
Wind.
The wind always influences
the fly fisher especially
when it comes to coastal
fishing. Everyone has their
favourite wind direction in
relation to their favourite
place or personal hotspot.
North, north easterly,
easterly, southerly,
westerly and north westerly
winds all came up with
scores well below 13%.
The best wind directions
were south westerly with a
25% score and south easterly
coming a close second with
18%.
Where?
Denmark is divided into many
regions. With over 7500km’s
of coastline and numerous
islands, the key areas to
wet those lines were in the
eastern coastal section of
Jutland with 20.7%. North
east Zealand jus north of
Copenhagen brings ashore
16%, Fyn 11.2% with the rest
of countries coastline
falling well below 10%.
Weather.
It seems that fishing with
cloud free skies gets top
marks with 34% fish taken.
Broken cloud came up second
with 38% and fishing
overcast days a lousy third
with 24%. For those hardcore
anglers – 4% fish came in
during rain and 0.5% during
snow.
Still to light winds rated
best with up to 36%, with
fishing in fresh winds
pushed a 21% score.
Day / evening.
If your planning to hit the
coast then the afternoon
seems the best with 28% fish
landed. The evening came up
second with 21%. Early
morning 16% with the rest of
the 24 hour period falling
below 12%.
Months.
Spring and Autumn has always
rated the best time to catch
sea run brown trout. April
hit the spot with 23%. March
came in second with 21% and
May third place with 10%.
For the Autumn months
October ran joint with Mays
result. With September and
November equally getting 7%.
Saddest months to stand in
the salt are December,
August with 2% and January
with 4%.
Method.
Spin fishing scored top
marks with 61%. Fly fishing
pushed a score of 37%.
So there you have it.
Regardless of the statistics
shown above, catches can
vary and it shouldn’t be
taken as gospel when it
comes to angling for sea run
brown trout. The above
results are taken from
36,673 fish caught and
reported on fangster.dk –
administrator: Lars Aagaard.
