Current Report
Winter has set in, with water temps dropping into the upper 30's steelhead and trout fishing will start to slow down. It has been a great fall on the Manistee and Muskegon Rivers. Fall Steelhead arrived in good numbers and will remain in the rivers throughout the winter season. Updated reports can be found at www.hawkinsflyfishing.com Last week both the Manistee and Muskegon recieved a nice push of chrome steelhead from the rain. Leeches, hexes, and brighter eggs were doing well on both rivers. Clown eggs have been doing well all season but bigger was better late last week on the Muskegon. On the Manistee, Hawkins Outfitters has been working on the Spey Indy Float system to cover more of our wood filled runs. These slow moving pools hold good numbers of steelhead in the winter months. This Indy system allows us to keep our flies above the wood and in the steelheads feeding zone. Taking what we have learned from the center-pin guys.
