Current Report
The good news is that we continue to have periods of rain this winter which keeps bringing new groups of fish in to both systems. The bad news is that whenever water temps are falling the bite gets more difficult. This last week saw a fairly good bite on both rivers with a mixture of fresh and winter fish caught. Eggs, including clown and Oregon cheese plus peacock buggers and hex patterns took most of the fish. With the coming rains and snowmelt along with frigid temps this weekend I'd use the time to catch up on other things. When water temps warm next week the bite should turn on. Due to the light winter and the number of fish in the system pressure on the weekends has been way up. I had 13 boat trailers at High Bridge on the Manistee Saturday, that's about twice what I would expect. If you can fish during the week I would do so. It is setting up for a spring explosion of fish and spawning activity early again this year. When water temps start to warm the females will jump up on gravel early. We continue to offer half day trips for $200. If you are planning on a spring steelhead trip, book it early. Posted some new usedgear on our website if your interested contact us. But check out the gear here http://www.hawkinsflyfishing. com/usedgear.php (copy and paste) Tight lines, Chuck Hawkins
