Current Report
Steelhead and trout fishing on the Manistee and Muskegon remains good to excellent overall. With the Muskegon running 2250 cfps and the Manistee at 1500 cfps levels are great for winter fishing. Water color has that green tint to it that always seems to be good for steelhead. Water temps are 33 to 35 degrees, cold. Look for fish in the slowest pools, fish them methodically covering every inch of the run from the inside out. Hot flies this last week were hexes, black stones, peacock buggers, golden nugget and steelhead orange eggs. Clown and lemon parade eggs also did the trick. You can see tying instructions on our website by going to http://www.hawkinsflyfishing. com/clownegg.php (copy and paste) This continues to be one of the best steelhead winters that we've had in a long time. Take advantage of our half day special, $200 for 4- 5 hours of fishing. Hot soup and coffee provided. These rates will last until March 14th. With all of the fish in the systems now, spring steelhead season will happen early, it remains to be seen how quick it will be over. Get on the water in Mid- March to take advantage of the fish and bug movement. Chuck Hawkins will be at the Rochester Orvis Store Feb 19th giving a presentation on Spring Steelhead. Contact Dave, Rich, or Brenden at 248-375-8100 for time and directions. Chuck Hawkins Hawkins Outfitters www.hawkinsflyfishing.com
