Spring Steelhead on MI Rivers

Current Report
The Manistee and Muskegon have slowed a little in the last couple of weeks. We have been on a roller coaster ride with the weather. Yesterday morning it was raining and 40 degrees. By noon it was 20 degrees and snowing. The fish don't know how to react. Both rivers have decent numbers of winter fish in the systems. New, fresh fish have been absent but the recent runoff should get us another push of fresh fish. We've been jumping 2 to 4 fish on a half-day trip. Those fish have come on little black stones, caddis and buggers. Eggs of choice are clown, steelhead orange, and Niagara Gold. Fish are still in winter mode, deep, slower holes but look for them to start closing in on gravel anytime now. We have seen a little worked gravel on the Pere Marquette so it won't be long. Trout fishing as really start to pick up as well. Litte black stones, midges, and even white baitfish patterns are picking up some impressive browns and rainbows. We still have few prime steelhead days left, give us a call at 231-228-7135.
