Current Report
March 10, 2006 Meramec River has been fishing very tough and is driving people crazy. The trout park is now open, and when the fishing slows there, the park fishermen begin migrating downstream, so the river is also becoming a bit more crowded. The rainbows have been pushing upstream for some time due to the urge to spawn. The browns are scattered throughout the length of the river. Since the rainbows are the primary fish caught on typical western flies, here, the lower reaches of the river are not producing the results most expect. However, the browns will respond to streamers, spinners, and little crankbaits. This is one of the most challenging trout streams in the state, but the payoff is potentially big with 20" brown trout present in many locations. Plan on doing some walking, and work the kinks out of your haul casting technique. When a brownie takes your streamer, you'll feel every ounce of his weight, and you'll be glad you came. http://www.MissouriTroutHunte r.com
