Muskegon River - New Year Steelhead

Current Report
Winter is finally starting to show itself here in W. Michigan, but with little affect on the resident trout and steelhead inhabiting the Muskegon river. Water temps remain closer to 40 than 30 and flows remain above average, which is very odd for this time of year. Trout fishing with small nymphs such as midge larva, stones, olive and natural hare's ear, scuds and soft hackles are producing plump rainbow and brown trout. Steelhead are still willing to chase a correctly "swung" fly, as well as being caught on a combination of nymph and egg patterns. Nothing too unusual, small bright caddis, sparrows, small hexes, stones and hare's ear are all getting attention. Contact me for further information. Jeff Bacon www.ontheflyguide.net
