Current Report
Tom Jack and I ended the day fishing Big Springs for just about two hours. The water was clear, 52 degrees and plenty of BWO's, midges and stoneflies hatching. There were some trout rising. Tom fished dries and Jack fished nymphs and then tried dries. Tom landed one brook trout and missed four more. Jack caught three rainbows on my Simple Shrimp and then missed two on a midge dry. It was a fun day and one more to go.

Two-Week Fishing Forecast
Always good to have plenty of nymphs and streamers.

Hatch Info
Expect midges and a few BWO's during the daytime. May even see a black stonefly in the snow.

Hot Fly Patterns
Be prepared with a variety of patterns because these wild trout can be picky. Day in and out trout can be taken with properly fished nymphs and streamers. Dry fly activity is starting to increase.

Dries- 18-20 Traditional BWO's, BWO Comparaduns, BWO parachutes and BWO emergers, #18-#20, #18-#14 Black stoneflies

Terrestrials-

Midges-Gray and olive hackle midges in sizes #20- #24, #20-#22 Griffith's Gnats, #18-#22 Brassies and my Mike's Midge Pupa in sizes from 20 through 24, tied to 7X are good bets if you encounter midge sipping trout.

Nymphs-#14-#16 Shrimp, #14-#16 Shenk's Cress Bugs, #16 Mike's Sulphur Nymphs,#18 Mike's Baetis Nymphs, #16- #18 Pheasant Tail Nymphs, #16- #18 Bead Head Pheasant Tail, #14 Red midge larva, #18-#14 Hare's ear nymph w/wo bead head.

Streamers-Olive, black, brown and crystal woolly buggers #6-#10, Shenks white minnows and sculpins #10-#6, Olive, black or gray zonkers #6-#8, even muddler minnows can entice a strike.

River Flows
Water level and temperature remains relatively constant throughout the year. The flow is normal, clear and 53 degrees.

Meet our Guides
I have been fly fishing for more than twenty years, and I've been a professional guide/instructor for ten years and have been affiliated with Orvis for six years. I'm certified by the American Red Cross in CPR and first aid. You may have read some of my articles in Fly Fisherman Magazine, American Angler and Fish&Fly magazine

Fly-fishing Schools
If new to fly fishing I offer beginner classes with equipment provided by Orvis that will put you on the right track, or maybe you need to learn where to find the wary trout that are found in our spring creeks. For this, I offer year round guiding on the Falling Springs, LeTort and Yellow Breeches as well as some other excellent South Central PA streams and will show you how and where to find these trout and techniques and flies used to catch these wild trout. Come late spring, you can join me and fly fish many other area streams that offer the best native brook and wild brown trout fishing there is to offer. Many of these streams are hidden in the beautiful Appalachian Mountain range so don't forget the camera! I also offer destination trips to the Juniata River and Spring creek. The Juniata and Spring creek are two of my favorite streams when I can get away for a day! Your dream trip is here. Or you could join me and fish some of the best private water on Mossy creek.
