Current Report
06/14/2005- 10am.-12pm. and 2pm.-7pm. - Raystown Branch. Bedford county, southcentral, PA. WEATHER- Mostly-Partly Cloudy, Hot/Humid mid-high 80's, and light breeze in Pm. ( Thunderstorms all weekend and yesterday afternoon) (Mainly Runoff not much help to streams.) WATER Conds.- Little low and Stained, cloudy, MUDDY(Vis. under 2ft.only about 1ft.most places)TEMP: Forgot? low 70's??? FLIES-#6- 10 IKe's Crayfish, #2-4 Whitlock's Crayfish, #4-2/0 Clouser deep minnows, #8-10 Whitlock's red fox nymph, and #10 cork poppers. I caught 2 Carp 25-28" 10- 12lbs. Also around 18-22 Rock Bass, 5 or 6 sunfish/bluegill, and 6 or 7 smallmouth bass. I got most fish on Ike's Crayfish and whitlock's crayfish but did fairly well on all flies but, Whitlock's nymph. I also missed 3 Carp and hooked another Carp snapped me off in a fallen tree. HATCHES- don't matter much Sulphurs, Lt. Cahills, and Damsel flies. RISERS- lots on bass and/or sunfishes, only saw carp actually riser. But a good bit of jumpers. I fished the Raytown Branch this morning with Bill N. for Carp, too give the trout a break, (especially with the bad water/weather conds. in most the state). The area we fished has alot of cottages and is a popular fishing area so carp fishing is a little tougher there. I missed 2 there and Bill hooked 1 and missed 1. But we each managed a few other fishes. The carp were mudding/tailing/ feeding well. Limited visibility and very skittish fish made it tough, we had a lot of looks and denials on all flies. Bill only had a half day to fish so after he left I went to a different area there were also many carp spread oout and feeding. I caught 2 there 1 on whitlock's crayfish and 1 on IKe's crayfish and hooked 1 on Clouser deep minnow. MIssed the other on Both crayfish patterns. The afternoon turned out decent. It was tough Carp fishing Conds. muddy water and breezy pm. Hopefully next time the water will be better (clearer). I fished a little on the way back to the Van for sunfish and bass did ok but not as good a usual for that area very few smallmouth too(strange).
