Current Report
Had a great day fishing on
Friday. I hooked into several
large browns and rainbows
just below the dam off of
route 9 in the park using a
caddis pupae. Lots of tan
caddis coming off.
But the best day that I had
this year was this father's
day on antoher section of the
East Branch of the Croton
River. A medley of flies
were out. It was
unbelievable. Sulfurs,
Isonychia, March Browns, etc.
I also saw a fly that looked
like a Cahill but had a
slight pink under belly and a
grayish looking fly in size
14 or 16. I was going to
leave this spot but I saw
fish rising so I stayed.
Lucky I did. The best was an
unexpected Green Drake hatch
and what looked like Yellow
Drakes. I was also treated
to birds and dragon flies or
crane flies picking flies off
in mid air. Surprisingly,
the fish did not take Iso and
other nymphs, but keyed only
only dries. I am not
complaining mine you. I
stayed until it got to dark
to tie on a fly. Fish keyed
on my Coffin Fly spinner
until they destroyed it.
Only had one. Then I
switched to Green Drakes
spinner, sulfur, and a large
Adams. I am glad my son
said that I could go fishing
instead of to his basketball
game. Maybe he knew
something I didn't or maybe
it was a chance to not have
the old man around watching
every move he made. I just
had to share this spectacular
day.
