Current Report
Just because it's been a hot summer and the local hog holes have all but shut down, don't give up on trout. Many high-country streams in the White Mountains of New Hampshire run cold in July and August and are often full of natives. The fish aren't big, an 8-inch brook trout is a monster, but they are extraordinarily beautiful and they were born in the stream, not put in the stream. Aggressive and almost painfully naive, the fly pattern doesn't matter as much as a quiet, stealthy approach. Boulder-hopping up a tumbling stream and meeting trout that can trace their lineage back to the last ice age is about as pleasant a way to spend an afternoon as I can imagine.
