Current Report
I hooked up with Tom, Jack and Peter. Tom and Jack had fished with me in March, now they brought out Jack's friend. We began under nice weather and water was clear, 64 degrees and light pressure. The trout action seemed to be good, but one cast and trout went down in the fly area. Tom landed one brown and the boys missed three. Looking at the conditions, I decided to head to the mountain for some brookies. there the water was 59 degrees and we did much better. They all hooked up and we landed 15-20 brook trout. From there it was lunch and then a brief trip to Falling Spring.

Special Report
The PA fish and boat commission classifies the Conococheague as "approved trout water" The stream is closed to fishing from March 1st to 8:00am on the opening day.

The Jig originates above Caledonia State Park then flowing some 13 miles where it enters Chambersbug. The upper reaches holds plenty of native brook trout and a good population of holdover browns. The upper part flows through nice woodlands and farmland. The Jig then flows around beautiful homes and more farmlands as it makes its way into Chambersburg and beyond. Downstream will put you on stocked, holdover and some stream bred browns. Some browns do reach good lengths. To see more of what the South-central PA area has to offer check out my web site at www.fallingsprings.com for stream reports, mail- order flies, Orvis Endorsed guide services and more.

Hatch Info
Midges, BWO's Yellow Sallies and some lesser hatches will be coming off. Black and tan caddis hatching during the day.

Hot Fly Patterns
Be ready with an assortement of streamers, nymphs and dry flies.

DRIES-#14-#16 Adams & Adams Parachute, #14 March Brown. For BWO hatches #16 Blue Duns, #18 Olive parachutes and traditional BWO.

NYMPHS- A good selection of nymphs does the job each day. Fly boxes should have #14-#12 green caddis larva, #16-#12 Hare's Ears, #16-#14 bead headed pheasant tails, #12 brown stonefly nymphs. Not a bad idea to have a few #14 green, pink and orange glow bugs.

TERRESTRIALS-

STREAMERS- Fishing streamers on the Jig can be the ticket for stocked trout or native brook trout. A good selection would consist of #14 Mickey Finns, #12-#8 woolly buggers in black, white, brown or olive, #8- #12 Shenk's white minnows and black sculpins.

River Flows
The Conococheague is a freestone stream so it is affected by rain and temperature. The water level is 2.0'. Water is clear and temperature is 63 degrees. degrees.

Meet our Guides
I have been fly fishing for more than twenty years, and I have been a professional guide/instructor for ten years and have been affiliated with Orvis for six years. I'm certified by the American Red Cross in CPR and first aid. You may have read some of my articles in Fly Fisherman Magazine, American Angler and Mid Atlantic Fly Fishing Guide

Fly-fishing Schools
If new to fly fishing I offer beginner classes with equipment provided by Orvis that will put you on the right track, or maybe you need to learn where to find the wary trout that are found in our spring creeks. For this, I offer year round guiding on the Falling Springs, LeTort and Yellow Breeches as well as some other excellent South Central PA streams and will show you how and where to find these trout and techniques and flies used to catch these wild trout. Come late spring, you can join me and fly fish many other area streams that offer the best native brook and wild brown trout fishing there is to offer. Many of these streams are hidden in the beautiful Appalachian Mountain range so don't forget the camera! I also offer destination trips to the Juniata River where we will fish the special regulated Trophy Trout Water. The Juniata is one of my favorite streams when I can get away for a day! Your dream trip is here. Or you could join me and fish some of the best private water on Mossy creek. Mossy has many great hatches and excellent terrestrial fishing to large browns and rainbows. You will stay at a luxurious log home right on the water with private bath for each room, game room, gear room and much more. Last is a trip to New York for salmon, steelhead and brown trout come the third week of October into December.

Sale Information
All these patterns and many more are available through mail order which can be found on my web site. By popular demand, you can purchase guided trips, flies and my specials using PAYPAL. Its quick and easy!
