Current Report
Well, winter steelhead fishing is just about history on the upper Rogue River. 'Final count' (and they actually do a counting) was over 21,000 winter runs. There are a few still coming up into the upper river but doubt enough to make much of an overall difference. The spring king run is now starting to really show some numbers in the lower river ... FINALLY! No feel yet for the size, but historicly the lowest count I remember into the upper river was in excess of 33,000 fish. Highest was well into the 40,000 range. Unlike the fall king run, these fellows don't react to fly fishing very well so majority of anglers use a regular rod and reel. Water flow has been increased out of the dam to approx. 2900- 3000 cfs. Point of all this is to keep the water cold in the lower river and pull the fish up as fast as possible.
