Current Report
Tuesday, March 4 Looking at the weather forecast, the piles of stuff on my real “work” desk, and what was on tap for the coming weeks, I made a hasty (and rewarding) decision to beat feet over the Pass for little late morning/afternoon reprieve on the Yakima. Heading up the Pass, it was foggy, dreary, snowing, blowing, etc. But almost as soon as I zoomed by the Hyak exit things began improving quickly. Bright blue skies, warming temps and a solid mix of CDs made it enjoyable – Midnight Oil, Pearl Jam, Chris Issak, the High Fidelity soundtrack (great!), The Call and even Carmina Burana. Damn near distracted me from spotting a couple of State Troopers near Lake Easton. Did a quick stop in Cle Elum to see what was happening on the upper portion and landed a small rainbow on a Copper John dropper. Back on the road to Ellensburg. Visited the Evening Hatch for some “local” menu items and then off to Ringers. Picked up two slightly larger bows on Kaufman stones, along with one whitefish of the dropper. Didn’t see much in the way of surface activity. Next stop the Canyon. Landed another small-ish bow near I think MP 22. Back in the vehicle for a stop at the Umtanum foot bridge. Landed two decent bows (12-16) just downstream of the bridge. One bow on the K-stone and one on a red Copper John. Also another white fish on the Copper John. Stopped by Red’s but missed Mr. Joyce (went to town). A few other waders and floaters on the river. Saw one floater take a nice bow on a dry and a few waders I spoke with had some luck up top. Weather was, um, a bit, um... w-y-n-d-y. Don’t say the word out loud or its bad mojo. No trout porn to post but it was such a gorgeous day I had to snap a few pics. I’ve added some “scenery” shots for Desktop Wallpaper to the NorthWestTrout.com web site. Download if you are inclined. http://www.northwesttrout.com/ misc.htm fish on… NW Trout
