The best bonefishing in the
world is in the Bahamas!
|
The Bahamian Islands are noted
for their exceptional
bonefishing and it is a
year-round sport. With
countless miles of bonefish
flats, which offer a lee no
matter what the wind
direction, and miles of
gorgeous, white sand hard
bottom wadeable ocean flats,
the Bahamas offers more
fishable flats than any other
area of the Caribbean.
Pelican Bay Bonefishing Club
is offering a 10 % discount
for all bonefishing packages
for the following dates:
Fishing days now through
September 30, 2003. Call 800-
771-2202 for
more details!
The bonefish has won its
reputation based on its
finicky eating habits and
ability to empty a fly reel
with blinding speed. The
Bahamas offers unchartered
spaces where you will seldom
see another angler all day,
and the best chance at big
bonefish. Bone fishing here is
"world class".
In addition to bonefish, you
will find an assortment of
other fish species available
including barracuda, sharks,
grouper and snapper and an
assortment of reef species. If
you are after the other big
two flats species " tarpon and
permit" the Bahamas is not
were you really want to go.
Permit are not as plentiful
here as the Yucatan
peninsula, but there are
some around. The best places
to find permit are the marls
of Great Abaco, the east side
of Andros, Berry Islands, and
the south and east end of
Grand Bahama Island. Tarpon
are not
plentiful here at any time of
the year, so if you do get a
shot at one consider it good
fortune! The best place to
find tarpon are the creeks and
blue holes of Andros Island.
The Bahamas form an enormous
archipelago stretching 590
miles from just off the coast
of Florida all the way down to
Haiti. Within this area are
approximately 700 islands
comprising the largest area of
bonefish flats in the world.

Nearly all of the Bahamian
island are fringed by coral
reefs with some of the
clearest waters in the world
the world. Areas near the reef
offer good hard wading flats.
Because sport fishermen were
the first outsiders to
rediscover the Bahamas in the
last few decades, the
islanders know how to welcome
them and treat them well. The
waters have fish, the islands
have lodges, and the guides
have the expertise to put you
on fish!
There is quite a variety of
lodges from fancy hotels to
simple guest houses. For the
lodges located near the reefs
there will be the added bonus
of excellent action there.
Are you intrested in a prime
week of fishing on Grand
Bahama Island, but found out
there was no space left. Well,
Leisure Time Travel has space!

(eastern time)
It would seem that most people
prefer the months of January
through May, however, winter
and Spring months are in the
greatest demand because most
northerners want to get out of
the cold and snow, bonefish
are present the year around.
Balmy weather and low fishing
pressure make the Bahamas a
great place to visit in the
fall. Regardless of the
weather, for prime time it is
best to reserve your space
well in advance.

The exceptional bonefishing in
the Bahamian Islands is a year-round
sport . Refreshing trade
winds keep the islands cool
and the climate varies very
little during the year. The
most pleasant time is from
November to April when the
temperature averages about
70-80 degrees.
The rest of the year the
temperature averages about
80-90 degrees. In the
northern islands, winter
temperatures are approximately
five degrees cooler than the
southern islands. Sea surface
temperatures vary between 74
degrees in February and 84
degrees in August. The Bahamas
experiences rain year round,
however the months of May
through October is considered
the rainy season. The northern
islands normally receive twice
as much rain as the southern
islands.
One nice thing about living in
Florida is the close proximity
to the Caribbean. Your
reporter, Capt. Edward
Johnston, has visited the
Bahamas dozens of times. There
is no substitute for
experience, so why take a
chance, make your vacation
plans with Leisure Time
Travel.
