Current Report
I have been been receiving Emails asking me why the fishing is so good on the south and west side of Andros Island. To save from having to answer these Emails one at a time ,I thought I would just answer them here. Andros Islands west and south side are uninhabited. It may stay that way into the forseeable future. Andros is about 120 miles long, the width varies greatly. The population is about 10,000 , with all of it on the east coast. The interior of Andros is one of the least explored areas in North America. There is no deep water access to either the south or west side. The locals of Andros seem to have no desire to live in these areas. So to bring in supplies in small boats for a few fishing lodges would be cost prohibitive. So would the cost to string power lines and build bridges. You can go by skiff from southeast Andros to the southside,or from Middle Bight to the westside, but it's a long ride. A few do it and camp out in tents. But with no fresh water and of course no fuel stations it's hard to take enough to stay very long. Creature comforts like fresh water showers , ice, refrigeration and protection from mosquitoes and fuel to do some exploring would be limmited. Sea plane limits you to one flat to wade and even less supplies asuming they just drop you off and pick you up. The enviorment at these uninhabited areas is quite harsh to say the least. A few and I mean a few private yachts come from the states every year. If planned right and if you hook up with local guides that know the area these trips turn out great. But care must be taken choosing a guide for these areas. Most guides will tell you they know the westside but in truth not many do. The habitat for different species of shallow water fish could not be any better. You can see from the space station photo of Andros Island that it's all flats. Even from the space station the white bottom shows up. If that water were even 6 feet deep it would not show up as it does from space. So you have a perfect habitat that other than a few boats a year has been undisturbed by man since time began. So you don't have to go half way around the world for the kind of fishing you can have at Andros Island. It's only 150 miles from Miami, but to do it right you do need a mothership set up for on board living. You also need good skiffs and good local guides. I live in Texas I keep my vessel at Andros Island. I could keep it anywhere, I'm there because that's where the fish are. Call us , we can get you there in comfort and keep you that way thru out your stay. We believe you can have it all, the best flats fishing in the world close to home and in comfort. In reality it really does only cost a little more to go first class.
