Current Report
McGee Creek- Mammoth Area.
The spawn is on on McGee
Creek and large to very large
rainbows are working their
way up stream. The wind gods
were on my side as the wind
was very mild to non
existent. (5-7mph in the
afternoon) Very few
fisherman were on the
stream. I saw no fisherman
the whole day until the end
of the day - I bumped into a
group of 4. The water is very
clear and the fish are very
spookey. Approach very
carefully and make sure to
work your way up stream from
the Lake Crowley inlet.
Walking down stream you will
see many fish....that you
have just spooked as they
torpedo down stream. The
riffles were productive and
many fish were sitting in the
soft "shoulders" of the
stream near the banks and the
under cuts of the bank.
Naturally there were fish in
the dozen or so pools. The
riffles worked best for me
becausee the fish had less
time to scrutinize my fly and
were much more grabby in the
riffles than the pools. The
fish were really keying on
caddis, there was about a 3-4
hour hatch up and down the
stream that went from about
1PM to 5PM+. Not alot of
surface feeding, but fish
were definitely rising and
hitting the caddis emergers.
