San Gabriel River West Fork

Current Report
I've fished the West Fork of the San Gabriel River three times in the past month, and it get's better every time. Now that the second wettest winter in recorded history is winding down, the flow of the river is definately slowing down. The DFG has been stocking the lower section below the second bridge every other week for the past couple of months, which seems to be bringing the population back up. I have also seen many more natural rainbows in this section lately. Back in March this section of the river was empty, mainly due to the storms earlier this year. I had good success with a California Mosquito pattern, catching 4 small natural rainbow's within an hour or so. Most of the bigger fish seemed to be staying in the deeper waters, and some of the bait fishers I had talked to on the way up said they were having success with salmon eggs. So i tried a salmon egg fly and BAM, hooked a few more mid sized rainbows within about 20 minutes. If you live in Los Angeles this is a beautiful place to spend the day fishing.
