Current Report
The Rio Grande around and above the Pilar area (above Taos Junction bridge) has been fishing really well lately. Conditions should only improve w/ water clarity improving and stable weather patterns. This weekend top producing flies were Jemez Queens (see fly archive), 20 Inchers, Kaufmann's Stones and large Flashback Hares Ears. Fished a double-nymph rig w/ a #18 Flashback PT to imitate the Baetis that are pretty numerous. There was a small and short-lived BWO hatch on Sunday w/ incoming clouds, sleet and snow, but not much action on top. October and November are most definitely the months to fish this fickle river as they are the most consistent generally. E-mail me at troutcountry@cableone.net for more details, locations and suggestions.
