Current Report
Annual spring runoff continues. Water flow at 300 cfs and has peeked. Will begin to recede and for the next 2 to 3 weeks. Conitnue to use caution when wading. If you plan to fish, search for the quieter water near the banks and under trees.

Special Report
Sporadic Pteronarcys stoneflies hatching between the town of Pecos and Dalton Canyon. Major hatch is about over but fishing should be good near the bank with stonefly nymph and adult patterns. This river is close to the annual 3-month period where it fishes the best. Average moisture content in the drainages is good news as compared to the previous 3 years.

One-Week Fishing Forecast
Good. As water begins to recede and clear, look for fishing to considerably improve. Water still cold from runoff.

Two-Week Fishing Forecast
Good to excellent. Look for the stonefly hatch to end. The fish and the aquatic bugs will both begin to turn-on by mid-June once the daylight hours and water temperatures increase.

Hatch Info
River is between significant hatching activity now. This means a variety of searching nymphs, dry flies, and streamers.

Hot Fly Patterns
Any searching dry fly such as Stimulators, Royal Wulffs, Parachute Adams or your favorite killer pattern. Try a variety of dark-colored nymphs (with and w/o beads) such as Pheasant tails, hares ears, stoneflies, wooly buggers, San Juan woolly worms, brassies on steroids (aka Copper Johns). Clearing water should indicate a time to switch to lighter-colored nymphs. This river lends itself well to experimental nymph and dry fly patterns.

River Flows
300 cfs and receding. Water clarity improving daily.

Meet our Guides
The Reel Life guides are a bunch of home grown locals or ones that have been fishing northern New Mexico, southern Colorado, and throughout the west for more than 25 years. They enjoy fishing and teaching others very simple methods to catch fish on flies in moving and still water conditions.

Water Temperature
Continued cold due to runoff. Excessive wading is discouraged.

Fly-fishing Schools
Santa Fe Fly Fishing School on a private section of the upper Pecos. Call the shop at 505-995-8114 for additional information.

Special Events
