Chinook Salmon
It looks as though the Fraser
River is now starting to come
into shape. The Fraser
crested June 11 and has since
been on a slow drop. It looks
as though the Fraser will be
in perfect condition for this
weekend, just in time for
Fathers Day. Come join us
for a day on the water
fishing for salmon or
sturgeon.
Salmon fishing was fair to
good this past week, our
largest salmon was a whopping
28 lb Chinook caught by Dale
Adams of Mission, BC.
Although the Fraser River was
high and dirty, tributaries
like Yale confluence;
Coquihala and Emory Creek did
produce some nice fish. Now
that the main stem Fraser is
clearing up I would expect
fishing to improve
substantially. Bar fishing or
plunking is the preferred
method for fishing for
Chinook salmon. You can also
cast spoons and spinner at
creek mouths or float fish
with bait.
Sturgeon
Sturgeon fishing was good
this past week; our largest
fish was 7 ½ feet with plenty
of fish between 3 5 feet.
Sturgeon fishing should
remain consistent now that
the water levels have
stabilized. We spent one day
fishing and filming for an
Ontario based fishing show
called Full Contact Fishing.
The show hosts Toddy Million
and professional sports
stars. This week we had the
pleasure to fish with 2-time
Super Bowl winner, NFL Dallas
Cowboys lineman Mark
Stepnoski. Mark landed a nice
47inch sturgeon and several
other smaller fish.
If youre looking for
something to do with Dad on
Fathers Day, why not take him
fishing? E-mail us for our
special Fathers Day rates.
Summer Salmon fishing
Opportunities and
availability update.
Summer is creeping up on us
fast. Already the salmon are
starting to enter the Fraser,
before too long we will be
hooking into those chrome
beauties on a daily basis.
Peak Chinook fishing on the
Fraser is between mid June
and mid July. We still have
plenty of good dates
available so dont wait until
its too late.
For those of you who like to
fish for sockeye August is
primetime. Although we are
getting quite full we do
still have some morning and
afternoon start times. I
would suggest booking ASAP so
not to be disappointed
As most of you probably know,
October and November are two
of the most spectacular
months for salmon, sturgeon,
fly fishing and wildlife
viewing. Although this is our
busiest time for bookings, we
still have some excellent
dates available. If your
wanting to experience some of
the best sport fishing
British Columbia has to
offer, dont miss out on this
falls salmon and sturgeon
fishing opportunities.
Trout
The staff at Hubs reports
slow fishing on most of our
local lakes. Weather
instability has been a factor
but now that we are expecting
some good weather, fishing on
local lakes should improve
greatly. Allouette Lake,
Stave Lake, Chilliwack Lake,
Jones Lake are just a few of
the lakes in the Valley that
produce consistent results.
Closer to Vancouver, try
fishing Sasamat and Buntzen
Lake.
If your visiting the
Vancouver area and would like
to experience some of our
remote river fishing. We are
currently offering day trips
into a few of our local
remote rivers. Trout fishing
has been fair for trout up to
4 lbs on both fly and spoons.
Interior Lakes
Fly Fishing
Logan Lake Fly Shop reports:
unsettled weather has made
the fishing tough for some
but fishing has been
surprisingly good for those
putting in the time.
Chironimid fishing has been
spotty, leeches almost always
producing the bigger fish.
Smaller damsel patterns
fished on the bottom along
the shoals, mayfly nymphs
getting very active with some
good emergences. Traveling
Caddis are making their
appearances on some lakes so
the pupas are working well at
times. Don't discount
Leighton this year -
although hit with winterkill,
it's still a great little
fishery.

Steelhead
The Chehalis River is now
open for salmon fishing and
summer steelhead. Water
levels are extremely low at
this time so fishing for
either species will be
difficult. There are a few
springs in the river and
winter steelhead kelts. You
can identify a steelhead kelt
by its reddish color and
thin body. A kelt is a post
spawn steelhead, not much
good for eating and should be
released unharmed. If you
need a last minute report,
call Hub Sports at 604-859-
8316
Remember to conserve your
catch
Tight Lines and we will see
you on the water
