Current Report
June 28, 2004 Phone: (403) 288-6190 Email: webmaster@reelflyfishing.com URL: http://www.reelflyfishing.com Our Fishing Results The Policeman to McKinnon drift on Sunday was another great day on the Bow. The river is starting to see alot more driftboats and wade fisherman but still lots of river to fish. Fishing was relatively consistent throughout the day using nymphs deep along the seams. Streamers worked well, however the great streamer action is still to come. The majority of the rainbows and browns we caught were thick and in really good shape averaging between 17" and 22.5". The odd rainbow was still recovering from spawning. The visibility of the water would change throughout the day but was mainly 2-3 feet of visibility. Due to the murky colouration of the water, the majority of the fish were still caught on a bright red San Juan, however BWO nymphs, golden stones, and clousers (black, purple and olive) also did well. There were tons of Caddis and PMD's on the water but still very few raises during midday. Unfortunately we couldn't stay late for the evening caddis hatches. Current Report Water levels are still running high but is starting to come down due to the sunny weather. Visibility is 2-3 feet above the Highwood and only slightly less from Highwood to McKinnon. The river is fishing well using mayfly and caddis nymphs and emergers slow and deep along the seamlines. Good dry fly action with caddis on warm evenings. Streamers were working in select spots where the water along the bank was clear. Insect Activity Heavy hatches of PMD mayflies and a few March Browns and Green Drakes were also sighted. Evening Caddis hatches have been heavy. Our bug screen included the following: large golden stones, PMD and BWO nymphs, worms, caddis, crane fly larva, midge larva, scuds Hot Fly Patterns: San Juan Worm Golden Stone Nymph Bitchcreek Nymph Olive Emergers (hares ear, flashbacks) Sparking Pupa Marabou Clousers (black, olive, purple) Bow River Bugger Elk Haired Caddis Peacock Caddis Click HERE for Bow River 3- Day Forecast from Alberta Environment Click HERE for additional stream flow information from Alberta Environment One-Week Fishing Forecast Environment Canada Five Day Weather Forecast HERE .
