Bow River Fishing Report July 26, 2004 Phone: (403) 288-6190 Email: webmaster@reelflyfishing.com URL: http://www.reelflyfishing.com Our Fishing Results The McKinnon to Carseland drift on Sunday was another great day on the Bow. There were a fair amount of driftboats and pontoons but overall not too crowed. Fishing was a bit slow during the middle of the day due to the high sun and clear water conditions. Fishing picked up towards the evening with nymphs deep along the seams and steamers along the shaded banks. Dry fly fishing really picked up around 9:00pm although the bulk of the risers were relatively small ones. Visibility of the water was greater than 5 ft therefore sending alot of fish deep. The fish were caught using a variety of patterns such as San Juans, caddis partridge emerger, PMD nymphs, golden stones, Elkhairs, PMD, and clousers (black, whites and browns). There were tons of Caddis and PMD's on the water. Current Report Water levels are still running high but seemed to be steady. The river is fishing well using nymphs deep along the seamlines. Although streamers did work it wasn't as productive due to the sunny conditions and clear water conditions. Good dry fly action with caddis in the evenings. Insect Activity Heavy hatches of Caddis and PMD mayflies. In addition, we did see a number of Golden Stones. Our bug screen included the following: large golden stones, PMD nymphs, worms, green caddis worms, crane fly larva, midge larva Hot Fly Patterns: San Juan Worm Caddis Partridge Emerger Golden Stone Nymph Bitchcreek Nymph Olive Emergers (hares ear, flashbacks) Sparking Pupa Marabou Clousers (black, white, olive, purple) Bow River Bugger PMD's Elk Haired Caddis Peacock Caddis Barbless hooks are effective April 1st in all Alberta waters. HAVE A GREAT DAY OF FISHING!!!
