Current Report

Looking for some of the best dry fly-fishing action in North America ? If so, the Elk River has what you are looking for.

The Elk River & tributaries are home to a thriving healthy native cutthroat trout population, with amazing stonefly, mayfly, and caddis fly hatches all summer long.

This year the Elk River will be at it's prime with higher water levels from our amazing snow pack, and the Dry Fly action will be spectacular.

Fishing Details

- The Elk River & tributaries are now open for Angling for the 2002 season.

- All flowing waters in Region 4 are single barbless hook only

- If fishing from "out of province" or "out of country" please sanitize your equipment before entering the water to prevent the spread of whirling disease

- Please practice "Catch N' Release" so they will be there to catch again !!!

Fishing Report

The Elk River level is only slightly above the average and continues to drop. The clarity is amazing with visibility clearing to the bottom in 4+ feet of water. As the river level keeps dropping the fishing will only get better as the fish begin to stack up in the larger, deeper pools. The tributaries are all clear and fishing well. Over the last week hatches have been a little sparse, however many forms of mayflies have been hatching so any mayfly imitation has been working well. As always, nymphs and streamers also have been successful.
