Current Report
Fraser Valley report for the week of Jan 01, 2005 For the 2005 season STS Guiding will be offering for the first time a new service we think is well over due, “ single seat sales”. Single seats will be offered on specific dates where anglers can join together with other anglers with the same interests to help share the cost of a guided trip. This service will be offered to anyone wanting to share his or her trip or join us on one of our pre- determined seat sale dates. To participate you can either check our website under Adventures/day trips & specials for single seat sale dates or you can book your own date and we will post it for others to join you. This is a great way to meet anglers from other parts of the world or local anglers with the same interests. We will also post dates here on our weekly report. Currently we have several dates available: Spring Sturgeon • April 23 - (4) seats • April 24 - (6) seats • May 7 - (3) seats • May 8 - (6) seats Cost $150 per person Summer Salmon Chinook Salmon - June 27 – 4 seats Cost $150 per person Weekly update Fraser River / Fraser Valley Report The Fraser River is in excellent shape, water clarity is improving daily with a good 2 to 3 feet of visibility. Although there are no salmon at this time, the Fraser still offers good angling opportunities for trout, sturgeon and some steelhead during the winter. Sturgeon Surprisingly enough, sturgeon fishing has been good this past week. We have been on the water several days over the Christmas holidays averaging 5 to 10 fish per outing. Our largest fish this past week was just over 6 feet with lots of smaller fish between 2 – 4 feet. Colder air temperatures are expected for this weekend and most of next week. Water temperatures were at 38 F but I would expect that to drop a few more degrees. Light to moderate winds has been the norm this past week with some chilling gusts. Tides are favorable for late morning and afternoon fishing until Wednesday, then best tides will be at night until Saturday Jan 08 when it switches back to early morning. The week of Jan 10 we should have some good tide times with some extreme highs in the 16’ range. We will continue to offer guided sturgeon trips throughout the winter; our next good sturgeon fishery will begin in mid March lasting well into May. Book early for prime dates. Trout Winter trout fishing on the Fraser River can be very good during December and January. In fact some of the best fishing occurs during these months. Although our preferred method is fly fishing you can target these fish with gear and bait. On the warmer afternoons when temperatures rise we usually see a fairly large Winter Stone fly hatch. These Stonefly’s can reach as big as 2 cm in length providing a good food source for both resident Cutthroat and course fish such as Chub, Whitefish and Northern Pike Minnows. We will be offering guided trips for all winter for Fraser River Cutthroat Trout as well as several remote rivers for Cutthroat, Rainbows and Bull Trout. Give us a call or e-mail for more information on our winter trout fishing. For Sale 21 ft 1996 Custom Weld Jet Boat Possible guiding work available with boat. http://www.guidebc.com/images/ p1010204_big.jpg Boys and their Toys, upgrading to larger boat. This Jet Boat is by far one of the nicest Jet Boats on the Fraser River. More options than any other Jet Boat you will find anywhere in BC. One of a Kind in British Columbia, ready for guiding. For more pics and information, see http://www.guidebc.com/jetboat sale.asp Vedder River Steelhead The Vedder River is in excellent shape and should remain that way as long as the cold weather stays. Water clarity is excellent and water levels continue to drop. This past week we have seen some good catches both in the lower and upper river. Most anglers are using cured bait or float fishing with wool but we have had several fly caught steelhead as well. Steelhead fishing will continue to improve daily throughout January and February with some of the usual setbacks. We will keep you posted on conditions throughout the season. We are once again offering our Steelhead/River fishing seminars for the 2005 season. These seminars make for great Christmas Gifts for family and friends. This years seminars will again be held at Hub Sports in Abbotsford. Cost is $135 per person for all 3 days. You can read more about our seminar at http://www.guidebc.com/floatse minar.asp Seminar dates – Jan 24,26 & 29 ( fish out) SOLD OUT - Feb 1, 3 & 6 ( fish out) 2 spots remaining - Available at Hub Sports or On-line by e- mailing us. Harrison River The Harrison River is finally starting to get back to some normal water levels. I don’t think I have ever seen such high water at this time of year. With the cold winds this past week we have not had the chance to fish the Harrison. We hope to get onto the water sometime by midweek. The Harrison can produce some nice cutthroat during winter months. None of these fish are large but the action can keep any angler interested. Dead drifting egg patterns is one of my favorite winter techniques. Small glo bugs tied with a bit of weight can be deadly when drifted just above the river bottom. There are also lots of Northern Pike Minnows and some White Fish to be caught as well. Chehalis River Some Steelhead are starting to show up but numbers of fish will be relatively low until late January when we start to see some of the main winter run. You might hook into the occasional summer run fish that is working it’s way back to the ocean. If you do, we suggest releasing these fish as they aren’t much good for eating and should be released. With this cold spell water conditions are going to get tough, remember to scale down your float, weight, leader and offering. Go small or go home. Join us this summer for our Annual Finn’s & Skin’s Tournament at Sandpiper Golf Club. Seats are limited so you must book early. Call or e-mail us for details. Remember to conserve your catch Tight Lines and we will see you on the water Vic Carrao www.guidebc.com sts@guidebc.com 604- 671-FISH ( 3474)
