Current Report
A warm, sunny, and thankfully
calm day graced our float
from McKinnon to Carseland.
This week we started a little
late, and as is typical for
this time of year, the
fishing did not pick up till
the afternoon.
As we passed Jensen's
Island, some small to medium
size bows began rising to our
drake and olive
presentations. Streaming and
nymphing for browns this low
in the river is not yet
profitable, as they are still
in the process of leaving the
city limits from their fall
spawn. I proved this theory
the previous evening as I
literally almost stepped on a
25+" brown laying in a
shallow silty backpool just
downstream of the Glenmore
bridge...... If you know the
feeling you get when a large
covert beaver gives a tail
slap a few feet away from you
while you are generally
minding your own business
(shot guns seem to make less
noise), you know how I felt
when this brown made an exit
from under my feet....
By days end some large bows
came to surface for us around
Caresland for a brief period
before night fall. Topping
off another amazing
fishfilled day for us on the
Bow.
In the past few weeks the
timeframe in the day in which
we have seen fish rising has
shortened, signalling that
the end of the dry fly season
is fast approaching. Enjoy
it while you can!
