Although the weather has been a bit cold, the great fishing has made it well worth the effort. Anglers have been enjoying some excellent angling for Chum Salmon with an average of 1 fish every ½ dozen casts. When fishing is that hot, weather really doesn’t matter, does it? Best action has been float fishing with jigs just off the bottom. Our best colors have been purple, pink and white. Fly anglers can also do well with maribou fly’s in the same color. We have also been doing well dead drifting egg patterns using Hi D lines like T 200 to 350. Sturgeon Sturgeon fishing continues to be very good throughout the Fraser and Harrison Rivers. We are averaging 10 to 20 fish per day even after spending a few hours salmon fishing. We seem to be hooking lots of fish between 4 to 6 feet with a fair number of fish just over 7 feet. Water temperatures are dropping fast, the beginning of the week the Fraser surface temperature was at 46F, it’s now at 44F and dropping. Sturgeons are still putting up a great battle although less fish are coming out of the water on the hook set. Dewdney Slough/ Stave River The slough is still producing some nice Coho with most anglers casting Gibbs Spoons like the Hammered Brass/red firestrip. Another great late season lure is the 3/8 or 3/16 sterling silver Ultra Lure. This lure is great for shallow water presentations when cast with 6 or 8 lb test mono. From what I here the Stave is still producing the odd Coho but the Chum fishing is pretty much over. Your best bet is to fish the lower canal area during the incoming tide. Casting spoons or fly fishing will both produce results. Vedder River/Chehalis The Vedder is still producing some decent Coho in the mid to upper river area. Some Chum still around but most of them are not worth targeting. The odd report of early Steelhead but still a bit early to actually target them. November usually produces some decent trout fishing in the canal area, watch for splashing fish. Light tackle fishing is best when targeting Cutts in the lower river. It’s always nice when your surprised by a late season Coho or early winter steelhead. This year we will once again offer our 3- day steelhead seminar. See our website for more details. The Chehalis is still in good shape with moderate water flow. Some anglers are still targeting migrating Coho in the lower canyon area with limited success. There are also a few summer run steelhead around that can be caught. Water conditions will change quickly on both the Vedder and Chehalis, probably best to call the guys down at Hub Sports before heading out. You can call 604-859- 8316. Harrison River The Harrison is probably your best bet for fresh Chum and Coho. The confluence has fished best using spoons and float fishing with jigs. Coho can also be found in the upper river fishing back waters and known holding areas. Again casting spoons or fly fishing with small muddlers is best. Water levels are starting to come down finally so you should be able to find some holding fish. We will try to keep this report updated through the rest of November and December on a bi-weekly basis. Once steelhead season gets going we will be back to our regular weekly and sometimes daily report.
