Weekly update
Fraser River / Fraser Valley
Report
The Fraser River salmon
fishery is now over for the
season. From June to
December its waters
produced some incredible
days of non-stop action.
Overall it was a good year
even though many of our
salmon runs were 3 to 4
weeks late. For anglers
looking to learn the Fraser
River we are offering for
the first time a Jet Boat
Seminar. This seminar will
mainly focus on navigation
from Mission to Yale and
reading water but we will
also talk about fishing
locations for winter,
spring, summer and fall.
Come join us for a great day
on the water.
Winter Cutthroat fishing can
be very good on the Fraser
River. The key to success is
to find them, once you have
done that, you just need to
cast a fly or drift and egg
in front of them. Many of
the productive waters are
the very same waters as you
would find Pink Salmon
spawning in the fall. The
shallow gravel beds in 1-3
feet of water, close to
shore is a good place to
start.
Sturgeon
Fraser River is in excellent
condition, visibility is
good, water temperatures
near 39F. Sturgeon fishing
has been fair to good for
fish in the 3 to 6 foot
range with the odd fish over
6. When water temperatures
drop below 45F sturgeon
become a bit lethargic.
Although they are still fun
to catch, they dont jump
and take those breath taking
runs like they do in the
spring and fall. This past
week we have been out a
couple times with good
results, best day was 22
fish, nothing over 5 ½ feet.
Best bait has been salmon
roe.
If your looking for some
winter fishing
opportunities, we offer
winter sturgeon fishing,
winter trout fishing on the
Fraser, steelhead fishing on
the Vedder and Chehalis
Rivers and several remote
rivers for trout and
steelhead. For more
information call us toll
free 1-866-771-3474 or e-
mail us @ sts@guidebc.com
Vedder River
The Vedder River is in
excellent condition, water
clarity is good, flow is
perfect for Steelhead
fishing. As most years the
early fishery can produce
some great fishing
opportunities, numbers are
low but so are the crowds.
This past week was very good
for some anglers fishing the
lower river below Vedder
Crossing. A few nice
hatchery fish were taken as
well as a couple large wild
fish in the high teens. If
this is any early
indication, we should be in
for a good season. Boxing
day derby is always a good
indicator so watch for derby
results to be posted over
the holidays.
This year we will once again
offer our 3- day steelhead
seminar. See our website for
more details.
The Chehalis is low and
clear. Not much happening
for steelhead yet. Water
conditions will change
quickly on the Chehalis,
probably best to call the
guys down at Hub Sports
before heading out. You can
call 604-859-8316.
Harrison River
The Harrison River is
spectacular this time of
year. Eagles perched in
every tree is a site that
must be seen. Sturgeon
fishing has been fair to
good, salmon fishing is slow
but there are still a few
stragglers around to be
caught. Cutthroat fishing
should pick up over the
winter but this fishery is
nothing like the old days.
If your lucky you might find
a few fish around but its
mostly whitefish and Chub.
If your looking for
Cutthroat best to fish the
Fraser in winter months.
We will try to keep this
report updated through the
rest of December. Once
steelhead season gets going
we will be back to our
regular weekly and sometimes
daily report. You can also
call us toll free for an
updated report at 1-866-771-
