Vancouver Ocean Fishing
Howe Sound Fishing Report
Winter salmon fishing near
Vancouver can be fairly
consistent during January
and February. Most anglers
are targeting Chinook Salmon
fishing for keeper size
salmon in the 10 to 20 lb
range. Reports this past
week have been fairly good
with fair number of both
undersize and keepers coming
from the South end of Bowen
Island, Tungstall Bay and
just outside Vancouver
Harbour.
A wide variety of lures and
bait will to produce Chinook
Salmon. Anchovies and
Herring strip both produce
fish but many of the local
guides prefer using
hootchies (Purple Haze, dark
green/white, Army truck,
blue/green/white and spoons
(Gypsy.....Flamin' Hans,
Flamin' Finney, Army Truck
and Gibbs Coyote green/glow)
Weekly update
Fraser River / Fraser Valley
Report
The Fraser River has dropped
and cleared significantly
since our last report. Water
levels are more typical of
past Januarys. Water
clarity is 3 to 4 feet with
water temperatures around
the 36 to 38F range.
Navigation between
Sumas/Fraser confluence to
Agassiz is a bit tricky
right now, lots of gravel
bars and shallow water to
manouver around. If your
planning to do some winter
boating on the Fraser, take
a few extra pre-cautions and
try to stay in the main
channel.
Sturgeon
Sturgeon fishing has been
fair this past week, our
guide Ryan Forester has been
out several times with mixed
results. The first day he
landed over a dozen fish
with several large sturgeon
over 5 feet, a few days
later, he fished all day for
3 fish. I guess that can be
expected this time of year.
Either way, its still great
to get out and experience
the great angling
opportunities, even in the
winter.
If your looking for some
winter fishing
opportunities, we offer
winter sturgeon fishing,
winter trout fishing on the
Fraser, steelhead fishing on
the Vedder and Chehalis
Rivers and several remote
rivers for trout and
steelhead. We also offer
saltwater fishing out of
Vancouver. For more
information call us toll
free 1-866-771-3474 or e-
mail us @ sts@guidebc.com
Vedder River
The Vedder River is in great
shape, water levels are
still a touch high but
visibility is good. There
has been good numbers of
fish being caught this past
week with both hatchery and
wild fish being caught. Our
river guides Ken Deptuck,
Ryan Forester and Radek
Hanus have been out
recently, all reporting good
success. As usual Ken has
been on a role landing some
very nice fish. If your
looking for a guided
steelhead trip or want to
improve on your steelheading
tactics, we offer
instructional guide walk &
wade trips on the Vedder.
Pic -
Now that a few Steelhead are
starting to show up, our
team of professional fishing
guides are starting to hit
their favorite holes. STS
Guide Ken Deptuck is one of
those elite Vedder River
anglers who seems to hook
fish on just about every
trip out. Ken was out again
this week landed a few more
of those chrome bars. Keep
it up Ken.
The Chehalis is back to
normal water conditions for
January. Most of the rain
this past week was
transformed into snow in
Hemlock Valley making river
conditions stable. There are
a few fish around, best to
check with the guys at Hubs
for daily conditions. 604-

Harrison River
The Harrison River is in
great shape, water levels
have dropped considerably
this past week. Not too many
reports from this area yet
but usually the Bay area and
below Kilby Park can produce
the odd Cutthroat. If your
targeting Cutts on the
Harrison you might also try
Morris Lake while your in
the area. Best to access
Morris from Weaver creek
area.
Remember to conserve your
catch
Tight Lines and we will see
you on the water
