Vancouver Ocean Fishing Howe Sound Fishing Report Winter salmon fishing continues to produce fair to good results for those anglers willing to put in the time. Most fish being caught are between 6 to 12 lbs with some larger Chinook in the 15 to 20 lb range. Each day more bait is showing up in the Vancouver/Howe Sound area which will only improve fishing results. Those larger Chinook are close to the bottom so if your not bouncing that lead ball off the bottom your not going to hook many keeper size fish. A wide variety of lures and bait will to produce Chinook Salmon. Anchovies and Herring strip both produce fish but many of the local guides prefer using hootchies (Purple Haze, dark green/white, Army truck, blue/green/white and spoons (Gypsy.....Flamin' Hans, Flamin' Finney, Army Truck and Gibbs Coyote green/glow) Weekly update Fraser River / Fraser Valley Report The Fraser River is in excellent shape. Water levels are normal for this time of year, water temperature are about the same. Backwaters are pretty low so if your planning on chasing Cutthroat on the Fraser, I would recommend fishing the main river or where a side channel joins with the main river. Weather patterns for the week are looking favorable for anglers. Looks like rain for the next few days followed by some clearer days on the weekend. I don’t think the rain will effect water clarity much as most of this rain will translate into snow in the mountains. Having said that, it might be just what we needed for steelhead fishing on the Vedder and Chehalis. Sturgeon Sturgeon fishing picked up a bit since last week but overall it’s still a bit on the slow side. We did see a few nice fish caught this past week using last seasons salmon eggs. Although it seems like we are still in winter fishing mode, March is only a few days away which means sturgeon fishing is going to improve greatly. We are starting to book quite a few trips for March and April so if your planning on coming out, you might want to book your date. If your looking for some winter fishing opportunities, we offer winter sturgeon fishing, winter trout fishing on the Fraser, steelhead fishing on the Vedder and Chehalis Rivers and several remote rivers for trout and steelhead. We also offer saltwater fishing out of Vancouver. For more information call us toll free 1-866-771-3474 or e- mail us @ sts@guidebc.com Vedder River The Vedder River Steelhead fishing has slowed a bit from the last few weeks but overall it is still very good and worth heading out. STS Guide Ken Deptuck landed a few nice fish this week as did STS Guide Ryan Forester. Both anglers are fishing their favorite spots which continue to produce nice fish on a regular basis. With the expected rain we are hoping for another fresh push of fish and a little extra water in the river. I don’t think we will see a big jump in water conditions but hopefully just enough to jump start another week of good fishing. Our latest client visiting us from Ontario spent a day out with Ken on the Vedder. Despite low water conditions, Chris Neilsen managed to land a nice 8lb wild steelhead with a little help from ken. Now that a few Steelhead are in the river, our team of professional fishing guides are hitting their favorite holes. STS Guide Ken Deptuck is one of those elite Vedder River anglers who seem to hook fish on just about every trip out. If you want to improve your steelhead strategies and hook up ratio, we offer one on one and small group instructional guide trips with Ken. Call or e-mail us for more information. The Chehalis Water levels are low and clear but fishing has been surprisingly good. We have several reports of good fishing in the lower river and the canyon area has been better than average. You can also find some good fishing in the lower river if you’re willing to do some bush wacking If you do venture into the lower river, we suggest always fishing with a buddy. Harrison River Not much happening on the Harrison right now other than Chubb and Northern Pike Minnows. You might find a few Cutts near the confluence and along the north shoreline below Kilby Park. If your wanting to target Cutthroat might be a better bet to fish the Fraser in the Aggasiz to Hope area. Early March can produce some good results especially if we get a warm trend for a few days. Watch for winter stone fly’s along the shoreline, Spring bar and Herrling Island have both been very good for winter stone flys in the past years. Winter Fly-fishing for Trout Winter fly-fishing for trout can be very good in the Fraser Valley / Vancouver area. There are many smaller rivers to choose from if you do your homework and don’t mind doing a little extra to get there. We offer several remote river-fishing adventures where you often don’t see another angler all day. The winter fishery is very good for trout, early spring you can fish trout & steelhead. If your in the area and would like to experience some great trout fishing and incredible scenery, just give us an e- mail or call us toll free 1- 866-771-3474 Remember to conserve your catch Tight Lines and we will see you on the water Vic Carrao www.guidebc.com sts@guidebc.com 604- 671-FISH ( 3474)
