Current Report
Fraser Valley report for the week of Nov 6, 2006 This week we have seen some of the best sturgeon fishing of the entire season. The Fraser River near Mission has been on fire for more than 4 weeks now but this last week has been pretty special. Although the November rains are upon us, don’t let that stop you. From now until the end of November we should continue to see some spectacular results. Weekly update Fraser River / Fraser Valley Report The Fraser River is completely blown out, what does this mean? It means if your fishing for salmon, forget it. Visibility is 0, lots of debris in the water including large logs under the surface. The Vedder River & Chehalis River are the same, reports from the Harrison this morning are not good. Although the east side of the river is fishable, water is on the rise and not much beach left for wading. The heavy rains are expected to continue through until the end of the week. Sturgeon This week we have seen some of the best sturgeon fishing of the season. The Fraser River near Mission has been on fire to say the least. Our best day this week we saw 4 of our boats land over 20 fish each, highest catch was by STS Guide Ken Deptuck with 30 fish landed, 7 fish over 6 feet, 1 over 8 feet. Most of our other boats were landing good number of fish between 5 to 7 feet. At one point in the day, we had 4 STS boats chasing large fish at the same time, that’s Trophy Sturgeon fish’n at it’s best. The rain has colored up the river and made fishing a bit more difficult but it hasn’t seemed to stop the sturgeon from feeding. We are still offering daily charters out of Mission and Harrison until mid December. We will then take a few weeks off and begin our winter trout and steelhead fishing. Salmon Forget salmon fishing for the rest of the week, all rivers in the valley are high and dirty. Although November is late for salmon in most of British Columbia, the Fraser Valley Rivers can still offer some good opportunities for Chum and Coho. Water clarity will improve if this rain stops, first rivers to fish would be Stave, Dewdney Slough and Harrison River. Next up would be Chehalis River. Vedder River The Vedder River is completely un-fishable, water levels are still rising, and visibility is poor. I will update the Vedder River report as conditions change. Harrison River The Harrison River is high and rising. Water clarity on the west side is poor due to Chehalis River water flows, east side is still clear. Finding a place to fish is becoming more difficult as the rain is coming down hard and the river is still rising. Might be a few days before the river settles down and becomes fishable again. Winter Steelhead and trout Fly-fishing A peak at fishing opportunities in the Vancouver area - update Nov 10 to Dec 15 Although most places in Canada are beginning to experience winter snow and below 0 temperatures, the Vancouver / Fraser Valley area is fishable year round. Our salmon season is almost wrapped up but our winter steelhead and trout fishing is just beginning. We will be offer sturgeon charters through November up to Dec 15, then switch our focus to winter steelhead and trout. ATV Quad Tours Come join us for a fun and exciting day exploring the Harrison Hot Springs, Coquihala and Merritt area. We offer daily Quad Tours ranging from 4 hours to a full day of riding. Our guide tours are easy riding exploring old deactivated logging roads where we often see Moose, Deer and the occasional black Beer. A lakeside shore lunch is provided on all 6 and 8 hour rides.
