Current Report
Fraser Valley report for the week of Feb 14, 2007 Winter fishing in the Fraser Valley can be quite good. Unlike the rest of Canada, the SW corner of British Columbia is relatively mild. None of our waters freeze as temperatures rarely reach below 36 F, 0 C. The Vancouver / Fraser Valley has the warmest climate in Canada during winter. Our coldest months are December and January with temperatures beginning to warm by early to mid February. By late February early March, resident and migrating birds are beginning to build nests, our flowers are taking bloom unlike the rest of Canada where temperatures are still in the - 10 to - 30 range. During winter months we fish for Sturgeon, Trout and one of the more sought after game fish Steelhead. All 3 of these species are local to the area offering good to excellent opportunities. We fish local and some harder to reach rivers for trophy trout and steelhead. Happy Valentines Day Come join us for one of our upcoming seminars. STS Guiding is offering several seminars this spring. Come join us and learn from professional anglers who make a living at catching fish. Vic is a government licensed guide with over 17 years experience of freshwater trout, salmon, and steelhead fishing and offers instruction on fly-fishing and drift fishing for salmon and steelhead. Weekly update Fraser River / Fraser Valley Report Sturgeon We have not been on the water fishing for sturgeon since December. Water temperatures will soon begin to warm and wintering fish will become more active. We are planning to drop one of our boats in the water this week and begin fishing for sturgeon by first week in March. By mid March sturgeon fishing really starts to pick up. With the anticipation of the spring Eulichon run ( smelt) sturgeon start to become much more active. Our next peak fishery begins in late May with some great fishing through the month of April and into the early part of May. Book Now for best dates. Steelhead The Vedder River has produced some great fishing so far this season. The last week has slowed somewhat but there are still some good opportunities to hook into a few steelhead. Water conditions have been unstable but still reasonable considering all the rain we have had lately. As we approach the mid point in the steelhead season we can anticipate another really good push of fish to enter the lower river over the next few weeks. By early March we usually see good numbers of wild fish with some hatchery fish mixed in. As air & water temperatures begin to warm, fly fishing becomes much more productive. March is a great month to swing a fly and we just happen to have some expert guides that can help you achieve your goals. Come join us for what should be one of the best months for steelhead action. Extraordinary Fly fishing for Sea Run Bull Trout A peak at fishing opportunities in the Vancouver area - update 45 minutes from Vancouver is one of British Columbias best kept secrets. The Upper Pitt River is located at the north end of Pitt Lake, North Americas only freshwater tidal lake. Each spring the Upper Pitt River receives thousands of Sea- run Bull trout heading back to their home waters in Garibaldi Park to spawn. Each high tide brings a fresh run of fish into the lower reaches of the Upper Pitt River. We begin targeting this bright chrome fish in mid May with fantastic fishing opportunities through June until mid to late July. Some of the best fishing occurs between May 21 to Jun 31. These fish reach as much as 14 lbs with an average size of 4 to 8 lbs. Incredible action on the fly and light spinning tackle. We are NOW BOOKING for May/June Sea-Run Bull Trout on the Upper Pitt River. Fathers Day Special Come join us for our annual Fathers Day Special. This year we are offering a special rate for Fathers Day, book any guided trip and receive $50 off our regular price. Trip must be taken prior to August 1, 2007.
