Current Report
I fished the Little Red on Sat and Sun this past weekend. Sat I fished downstream from the Swinging Bridge access. I caught 7 trout, 2 rainbows of about 16" and 5 smaller browns. #14 B.H. grey sow bug seemed to work best, also a #16 olive hare's ear with gold ribbing. Sun I fished at the Cow Shoals access and caught 8 trout, mostly browns including a nice 18", a couple 15" rainbows and a little brookie. Overall I had about 5 times as many misses than catches. On both days, fishing was best in the morning and slowed down after about 1:00. I've learned to stay away from the crowds at the Little Red because in seems many of them don't understand common courtesy when it comes to invading another fisherman's space. And make sure Bubba Sr. is not around if you tell Bubba Jr. that he's going to get a hook set in his mouth if he gets any closer. On both days there were sporadic midge hatches that many trout were rising to. If you can match the midge hatch, which I did not have the flies to do so, you could have an exciting day of dry flying. Lastly, don't think that you can't catch a big one fishing the shallow riffles. I saw many large browns jumping after midges in water only about a foot deep. tight lines-Daniel
