Current Report
The fishing in the Great
Smoky Mountains National
Park was really good this
past Friday. There were
large hatches coming off and
the trout were feeding
heavily. There were hatches
of Hendricksons and March
Browns. There are still a
few Blue Quills coming off.
On the Watauga tailwater the
Caddis are about to turn on
big time. We caught a nice
16" brown that was spitting
up caddis larvae in the
boat, he was in the soft
outside edge of a strong
curved run and had a huge
belly from feeding on those
caddis.
The South Holston has been
wader friendly with its
generation schedule. There
are a few sulphurs hatching,
but the the river seems to
be in a transition from
winter hatches to
spring/summer hatches. The
fishing method of choice
right now is nymphing with
Zebra Midges being the
primary fly.
After the strong storms we
experienced this weekend the
weather report is looking
very good for the upcoming
week.
I am looking forward to the
next month as the caddis
hatch goes into full swing.
Our trip schedule is filling
quickly with Smokies wade
trips and float trips on the
tailwaters. Give me a call
if I can help with a guide
trip.
