Current Report

Fishing on the S. Holston and Watauga Rivers has been very good for the last couple of weeks. We have been catching great numbers of trout from both rivers along with good sized Browns and Rainbows. The S. Holston has been producing the best size. Browns and Rainbows up to 22 inches have been caught and released during the last couple of weeks with some bigger fish leaving with our flies.

With the warm weather that we have been having this is a great time to be on the water.

South Holston River

The S. Holston has been fishing very well all fall with numbers of 10-14" fish coming to hand. We have also been catching and hooking a good many big fish with the largest one landed being a 22" Rainbow. With the Sulphurs still coming off and Blue Winged Olives just getting started the fish are really feeding right now. Also the BIG Browns have moved into there spawning arounds, and are feeding up before the spawn.

The Trout are taking both Dries and Nymphs very well. Fish are feeding on both Sulphur, BWO and Midge Dries. With alot of fish rising during the day.

Watauga River

The Watauga River is fishing extremely well right now with lots of 10-14" Browns and Rainbow coming to hand. We have also been catching a few Brook Trout so the chance of a Slam is possible. The trout are feeding both on the surface and sub-surface. With nymphs and Dries working at different times during the day. Blue Winged Olives are coming off during the mid- day hours and trout are sipping them off the surface willing. Also the Bigger Browns are on the move into there spawning areas so the chance of hooking into one is good right now.

The Trout are taking Dries and Nymph very well. Fish nymphs when there isn't any surface active, but when the hatch starts you can have a great time fishing BWO dries.

Remember the North Carolina Delayed Harvest streams are fishing extremely well right now and will continue to all winter long.

Float Trips and Wade Trips Available on the S. Holston, Watauga and North Carolina Delayed Harvest streams.
