Current Report
Current Conditions: Hot days, cool nights, good-to- excellent fishing and about an even split on wadeable and floating opportunities. Generating has been beginning at 1:00 P.M. and running til 8:00 P.M. That gives wade fisherman a more or less full day by starting with morning Sulphurs up high and moving down ahead of the advancing water until 5:00 P.M. or even later. Floaters can put in at 2:00P.M. and float over a good hatch of high water Sulphers and take out just before dark. This is a light mid-summer generating schedule owing to our rain deficit. The river is healthy and full of fish

Hatch Info
Hatches: I guided a fella yesterday on the Holston. He caught lots of fish despite the absence of bugs. A thin, brief hatch of Sulphurs came off around noon and brought up some real nice fish. There is a heavy concentration of Sulphurs up high and down low. The middle sections have fewer Sulphurs this year. Don't know why.

Hot Fly Patterns
Fly Patterns: As the Sulphur hatch progresses and the fish get fussier, I often turn to a yellow bodied soft hackle. After a few fish come up to and then reject my best presentation of my best flies, I knot on a Soft Hackle. Call it an emerger if you want to-----I still call it a wet fly. I dress mine to float high or squeeze the air out of it to sink it deep. Works for me.
