Current Report
I fished the Big Thompson for a few hours over the course of two cold snowy days during the weekend of 4/30/05. Late in the day the trout were taking sub- surface emerging midges with much gusto. There was a spattering of adult baetis on the surface but were not attracting the attention of the fish, much to my frustration. That following Sunday morning I did quite well on a bead head stonefly pattern, catching about a dozen rainbows in about an hour in a 100 yard stretch of water. The weather was nasty but the fishing is excellent. Water levels are low and fairly clear. Midges, stoneflies, and BWO's! Fish on!
