Current Report
I took my 6 year old for his first visit in Eleven Mile Canyon on Friday; we found a great spot just below the amphitheater. I set him up with his Looney Tunes rod & reel and a clear bobber and a walworm (San Juan worm bought at Wal-Mart). He took to casting like a brown to a copper john and after about 30 minutes he had his first fish (a 14 inch rainbow). I got rigged up with some new fly the covey sold me called a huckin midge and the old reliable red San Juan worm. I flailed for an hour or so, while he caught two more. Finally he said Dad, put on the fly I have instead of the “clucking midge” (the beauty of innocence). I put on a flesh tone worm (FLT) and an FSNcrystalhead and proceeded to catch 8 in approximately an hour and half. What a great afternoon and I think the kid’s got a pretty good chance of being a pretty darn good fly fisherman.
