Current Report
LOWER RIVER: (Glenwood to Carbondale): Down to 1100 cfs in Glenwood Springs today with great clarity. PMDs, caddis, and Yellow Sallies are the main hatches in the lower river, as well as a few golden stoneflies still popping. While this really has been the year of the nymph on the Roaring Fork with the continuing higher levels, the dry fly fishing down here really went off yesterday! Fish were very eagerly eating caddis and PMD imitations, with the occasional big take on the big bug. MIDDLE RIVER (Basalt to Carbondale): 750 cfs in Emma. The dry fly fishing up here has been dynamite lately as well, even during that dinner time period when it often slows because of the heat of the sun. The higher colder water has lengthened most hatches, and there are a lot of PMDs and stoneflies (trout are eating yarn indicators) popping in here as well. Pockets are exposing more now for wade fishermen with dropping water levels. UPPER RIVER (Basalt to Aspen): 525 cfs at Maroon Creek today. Green Drakes are still holding out up here with the colder water, but expect fish in the more popular areas to be keyed in on smaller food sources like PMDs and caddis. Like the rest of the river, the dry fly fishing up here has been red hot the last week since levels are dropping and hatches are thick.

Catch of the Week
21 inch brown on a foam caddis.
