Current Report
Flows below the damn have
stabblized overall the past
few weeks. The weather has
been mostly beautiful. This
makes for some great spring
fishing! I, personally, have
had good success with a two-
nymph rig. I'll have a BH
pheasant tail as my lead fly
(to get to the bottom),
followed by a size 18-22
miracle nymph or black
beauty (very easy to tie) no
more than eight inches below
my lead fly. BWO's (blue-
wing olives) are starting to
appear on the stream in good
numbers. When there's acion
on the surface, a good set-
up would be a dry-dropper
rig. A size 18-20 Parachute
Adams or BWO followed by an
emmerger, such as Barr's
Emmerger BWO, have been
producing many fish during
the hatch. Fish have been
holding in pocket water,
near boulders and pool tail-
outs.
Lately, I have caught some
good size fish, up to
eighteen inches, and a good
number of fish over 12". I
know that there are fish
from 3-5 poundes in these
waters! New man-made pools
have been created recently
and the fishery has thrived.
The fishing can only get
better up until the river
levels rise from runoff.
Until then, it may be smart
to take advantage of the low-
level river wading
conditions that are upon us!
Southern Colorado fishing at
it's best!
