Current Report
The fishing has been very good on the Provo River. Midges are hatching in full force everyday on both the middle and lower provo rivers. Best time to be out is 11:00 to 3:00, when temps are at their warmest. There has also been good hatch activity from 4:30 until dark. The midges come back to the river to lay eggs and there is virtually nobody on the river. Great time to fish dries in total solitude. Because of the amount of pressure it has been seeing as of late, the fish on the middle (below Jordanelle) are extremely selective right now. Anglers having the best success are fishing #22-24 single midge patterns such as Silvey's midge adult, Morgan's midge, trailing shuck midge, and Fowlers Biot midge. Remember to use long leaders 10-12 feet and plenty of 6X or even 7X tippet. As the month progresses, look for cluster patterns in sizes #16-20 to start taking lots of fish such as Griffiths Gnat, two bead midge, Hi Vis Cluster, and Parachute Adams. The lower Provo has had less pressure than the middle, but the hatch fishing has not been as intense. The fish you find rising should be much easier to fool, though. Nymphing has also been productive on the lower with standard midges such as U.V. midge, Zebra midge, GT Emerger, and disco midges. Sow bugs and San Juan worms have been good as well and have accopunted for some large Rainbows as of late.
